In 2006, as we increase our scale of effort in Afghanistan, tour intervals are likely to breach harmony levels in some areas such as medical, intelligence, helicopter crews, logistic, provost and engineers. Overall, we judge that the impact on our planned deployment to Afghanistan and readiness for future operations is manageable

16 Air Assault Brigade were involved in the most intense fighting by British troops since the Korean War in the 1950s. Troops fired nearly half a million rounds of ammunition in 498 contacts over six months.
16 Air Assault Brigade lost 19 men killed during their tour in Helmand Province. From 1 January 2006 to 15 July 2007 214 UK military and civilian personnel were admitted to UK Field Hospitals and categorised as Wounded in Action.
A total of 68 British Forces personnel or MOD civilians have died while serving in Afghanistan since the start of operations in 2001 (figure as of 30 July 2007).
